Cosmopolitanism: 2nd entry
There is a lot of correlation between Appiah's book and the profession of Public Relations. During chapters 4-6, Appiah further discusses a lot of the cultural differences that still exist between us on ALL issues: race/slavery, sexual orientation issues, cultural practices, women's rights and more. Similar to Public Relations, a professional is dealing with clients and the public of all different backgrounds, religious practices and moral beliefs. As Appiah stated, "conversation doesn't lead to a consensus on anything, especially not values; its enough that it helps people get used to one another." And such is to be expected of anyone working in the field of PR. Its important to know that you will Not understand or agree with the beliefs of the people that you will work with directly in many instances. However, it is important that you are able to get along with all individuals and build healthy relationships.
