Diversity Issues!

Since I had to leave early from class today, I just wanted to discuss some of the diversity issues that have stood out to me the most. We are all lucky to be able to attend this VERY diverse university, but I would definitely say that there were huge diversity issues in high school. One of the major incidents that stood out to me was the day after the Oscars aired in 2002/2003 (can;t remember which one. My teacher was discussing the huge milestone that had been accomplished of two african american actors taking the win in the lead categories (halle berry and denzel washington). At that time an anglo male raised his hand and said that "Black people really hadn't accomplished it because Halle Berry isn't fully black, she's a mut." As you could see, this was very offensive to not only Blacks but also multiracial people. Also, at one of my past jobs there was a huge issue with sexism, the managers were all males, while the females had positions of lesser power, and were treated that way at all times. For instance, a woman would get written up for something trivial, but a male manager would open the store an hour and a half late and receive no written warning! The guys always used very sexist, sexually-charged jokes on the job and CLEARLY showed favoratism towards the male employees! As you see, I do not work there anymore, but maybe I should file a complaint, hmm.....

More feedback on Enron doc!

I think the Enron video said a lot about how important it is to have high moral and ethical standards, especially in the workplace. I am busy trying to get the final project together, so I will have feedback for on my next post! There are so many company scandals that have scarred their reputations, and its importnant to research these incidents and others (like the Cowboys) so that we can learn from them when we start our careers. Until next time!

Movie Commentary!

I really didn't have much to talk about this week since we took a test and then started the movie last week. So far, the Enron documentary has been really interesting. I heard so much about the collapse and scandal of the company on the news a few years back, but I really didn't know much else other than that. Its amazing to see how some of the most successful businessmen in America (or at least at one point) allowed their greed for money and success to drive their whole business into the ground. Its crazy to think about all the lives that were destroyed because of those bad decisions! Well I guess I will have more to talk about next time when we get done watching the movie!
